Kannawidan Ylocos Festival: A Showcase of Culture and Tradition

The Kannawidan Festival is often celebrated from the last week of January to the first week of February, commemorating the founding of the state. The most coveted festival in Ilocos Sur, it offers many activities such as Ilocano talent showcases, art exhibitions, food bazaars, celebrity guests and a variety of other shows.

In what exactly is the importance of the Kannawidan Festival to the Ilocano people? Like all festivals, it has cultural significance. Celebrate the founding date or day when Ilocos Sur separated from Ilocos Norte in 1818. Festivals allow locals to share their talents and the treasures of their cities and communities. It gives small business owners the opportunity to make money. The focus of the celebration is to emphasize the citizens and the wonderful things they do. It strengthens our roots, our gods, our culture, and our relationship with our fellow Ilocanos. In addition to strengthening the relationship between the locals and the state, tourists can appreciate our rich cultural heritage, which benefits our state's economy.

So to answer that question, yes. The Kannawidan Festival is very important
to the Ilocano life. Without the festival, the talents, skills and rich culture of the locals would be overlooked and slowly unappreciated. The way to celebrate in Ilocano is always a festival, rather than a celebration that emphasizes the greatness of people and the state.
